Viz Reflectives is a family run business founded by Nick Rowbottom and Mandy Hitchinson in 2002. The company is based in the town of Crewe, famous for its railway links and home to Bentley Motors, in the beautiful county of Cheshire.
Nick has always been an entrepreneur and started his first company at the tender age of 23. Nicks background in manufacturing reflective materials in the UK led him to set up the business in 2002. Joined by Mandy, his sister in law, whose experience in technical marketing and with the operational skills needed to successfully grow the company.
The early years of the company were spent developing VizLite, MLite and mbead reflective brands for the safety market, working closely with Chinese manufacturer YSL China. The relationship blossomed into friendship and forged a successful business strategy for both companies.
In 2014 Nick started to research new ways in which phosphorescence and reflectivity could be used together to offer a new solution to safety. The first VizLite DT product was developed as a sew on material. VizLite DT is now covered by a patent pending and design rights, with the patent result expected in 2019.
To meet market demands the DT Heat Applied, PSA and Fire-Retardant versions were later developed with the co-operation of YSL China. It made sense to move manufacturing to the YSL China factory due to their vast expertise in coating and adhesives technology.
Nick commissioned a bespoke lamination machine to produce the VizLite DT Chevron at Crewe. This machine enables the production of finished items at various widths and combinations of reflective and phosphorescent materials.
The product has gone on to win many awards including the best innovation in textiles for clothing at the 2015 future materials awards, PPE Innovation of the Year Award, Professional Clothing Awards 2016 and Favourite Product Award 2017 – Trust Pet Products for the Flecta VizLite DT Dog Jacket.
